Round 2?

So my DH has an appt for a semen analysis on Wednesday.  I am very curious (to say the least) about the results.  Could healthier living have improved things at all?  Is the unknown entity causing his low count, motility and morphology something that is going to get progressively worse?

I've also left a message with the nurses at my RE's office asking how long after weaning do I have to wait for repeat day 3 testing/a new IVF round....I'm assuming 2-3 months for hormones to regulate?

6 hours later-

Now that I've had time to finish this post - nurse called back - she said the first month after we are completely weaned I can get Day 3 labs drawn and/or start a new IVF cycle. Wow.

Any advice on weaning? I am utterly terrified. She is a comfort nurser. We don't nurse over night anymore (finally) but she nurses SEVERAL times a day. I don't want to go cold turkey yet I don't want to drag it out for several months.

  2. I had to go cold turkey, but before that, we were off all night feedings. However, he WANTED the boob. He kept asking for it when we went cold turkey because I got preggo and the RE made it clear that I needed to stop immediately. I just hugged him and told him I loved him. It took about 10 days for him to forget about boob, and now he is totally fine.

    1. Thanks! I've read all about dropping a feeding here and there - thing is I think most of our nursing is comfort nursing - I may have to go cold-turkeyish. Glad to know I can survive!

  3. We weaned at about 8 months (not total bf- supplemented with a formula night feeding) and really I just kept dropping feedings and replacing them with formula and it happened really fast because I had no frozen supply- within a week we were totally on formula. Wish you luck with that and with gearing up for round 2!!!

  4. Sounds like we are in very similar places! I just did my day three testing & started back on BCP's this past week! I look forward to following your journey.

Okay advice on weaning...Ian was also a major comfort nurser and LOVED nursing! I think the main thing with weaning is to know it's a process and it does take a little time. I started by cutting out one nursing session at a time for a week or so and then gradually another. The first one I cut was the mid morning nursing session and I would try to keep him busy by going on a walk or running an errand around that time. Also wear high necked shirts during this time, t-shirts etc so she doesn't have "easy" access to you. My husband also had to step in and help with the night wakings and putting Ian to bed when we got ready to drop that feeding. For the pre nap nursings we waited until there was a 3 day weekend and Nick also had to help put him to sleep for those naps as we had gotten into the habbit of him nursing to sleep for naps, we started rocking him to sleep for naps instead which has worked well for him still. Ian was definitely a bit needy and fussy during the weaning process, which from what I've read on kellymom.com (awesome nursing resource if you're not familiar) is normal. I also read up on weaning from other sources as well and they all reassured me the extra fussiness/clinging was normal as we go through weaning. Especially with comfort nursers they need to get that comfort in another way when you're weaning so it's normal for them to want more cuddles & hugs during that time. I also wished we could have nursed longer but due to our desire to have another child we also made the decision to wean. Looking back I think weaning around the time we did (14 1/2mths) actually ended up being a good thing as Ian has become even more insistent when he wants something and I really think it would be difficult now at 17mths.

Hope some of that helps & most of all you should feel proud that you've nursed for so long and given her such amazing nourishment!!!
